Tiny Feature Saturday’s – UNDERCITY

This tiny feature “UNDERCITY” by filmmaker Andrew Wonder chronicles the adventures of urban explorer Steve Duncan as he explores “without permission” the bridges, sewers and tunnels of New York City.  Andrew effectively conveys the inherent danger and childlike sense of wonder (pun intended) one gets when going someplace you are not supposed to be going, or doing something you are not supposed to be doing.

There is an inherent element of danger which permeates almost every frame of this short.  Both filmmaker and explorer risk arrest, electrocution, and victimization which adds an element of anxiety not seen in many DSLR shorts.  The narrator Steve Duncan plays the danger card for everything it is worth, and just when you start to think that the element of danger might be a bit overstated, the filmmaker lets the audience off the hook through anecdotal tales from some of the folks who call this hidden world their home.

Video – The Art of Drowning

This is a really well done animated piece by Diego Maclean. It is based on the 1995 work “The Art of Drowning” by American Poet Laureate Billy Collins. This video pops up on vimeo after playing the festival circuit making rounds at Sundance, Annecy and SXSW. This short really captures the wry humor of Collin’s work. For more of Diego Maclean’s work log onto his website.

Cool Portrait Video – “Enjoy 2011″

This video caught me completely off guard because it is the first video produced in the upright “portrait” position with any stylistic and technical merit that I have seen.  Courtesy of Álvaro de la Herrán. It’s short and really cool.

Tiny Feature Saturday’s – Russ Chimes “Midnight Club EP”

This video titled “Midnight Club EP” from the UK group Russ Chimes is a three part mini movie that has an “Alpha Dog” meets Daft Punk “Discovery” story line that keeps you on the edge of your seat.  Despite a storyline that pushes the outer-limits of believability and a cookie cutter albeit entertaining trio of dance tracks, the skill used in revealing the plot-line, along with the slick camera work and attractive cast makes this one worth watching.  Director Saman Keshavarz does a great job building drama without using a word of dialogue. The cinematography of Justin Gurnari really draws the viewer in, and the editing of Nate Tam is quick and cool.

The End Titles – Warner Bros

Here is a collection of The End titles from Warner Bros thru the years courtesy of this really cool website annyas.com. This website archives and displays movie title stills from every era for our enjoyment.  According to Christian Annyas who produced this site…

I’ve seen a lot of movies over the years, and to prove I’ve sat through at least the first ten minutes of them I started making screenshots of the titles. Then my computer crashed and I almost lost them all. To save them for future generations I created this little website.

Well thanks for geeking out on this for us Christian.
