Facing Change Documenting America – Debbie Fleming Caffery

It has been some time since I updated my blog. This might be the longest time between posts since I revamped my site in 2008. There is a good excuse, I have been insanely busy shooting and editing, but the good news is I will be able to post some really cool videos in the upcoming weeks and into the New Year. Today I got two posts for you guys…

Earlier this year Leica announced their collaboration with Facing Change: Documenting America (FCDA), a non-profit collective of prominent photographers and writers dedicated to exploring the United States during one of the most enduring times in the nation’s history. I was recently asked by Leica to document the photo journalists who make up the Facing Change roster.

For the first video we traveled to Breaux Bridge, Louisiana to meet with Debbie Fleming Caffery who has been documenting the destruction and devastation caused by the modernization of farming forcing out the formerly poorly paid farmhands and, more recently, the river flooding on to farmlands.

Leica Portraits – Jonathan Mannion

It’s been awhile since we published a video from our very popular Leica series. Hopefully this one will get us back on track. This video features Cleveland, Ohio native Jonathan Mannion, who began capturing images of up-and-coming urban music superstars after working for a year with world-renowned photographer Richard Avedon. In 1996, he launched his professional career by shooting the photographs for the classic hip-hop album “Reasonable Doubt” by Jay-Z. Since then he has gone on to capture a who’s who in music, celebrity and sports. In this video Jonathan gives us a little insight into his process as well as some advice for future shutterbugs who want to be like him.

Leica Portrait: Paul S. Bartholomew

Our latest Leica portrait features Pennsylvania based commercial photographer Paul S. Bartholomew.  Paul specializes in architecture photography and among other things shared his thoughts on the informal as well as the formal approaches to his craft.  We met Paul at the Highline Park which is one of the more graceful architectural accomplishments this city has ever seen.  It’s melding of architecture and recreation was a fitting location to meet Paul and watch him at work.  Read more about Paul at the Leica Blog.

Leica Portraits – wowe

Our latest video for the Leica portrait series features German born New York based photographer Wolfgang Wesener aka wowe, Wesener covered the NY Punk and nightlife scene during the 80′s and has photographed some interesting and eclectic personalities over the years.  Coming from the New York nightlife scene myself and transitioning to the commercial world I was fascinated to hear how wowe dealt with many of the same challenges I struggle with today.  Wolfgang also shared some amazing celebrity encounters with us including a memorable photo shoot with the late great James Brown.  Log onto the Leica blog for the in depth interview and photos.
